Move into stillness with this class, carefully crafted to be a slow, smooth dive into the the meditative aspect of embodied philosophy known as Mindfulness.

For those who have been curious, tempted, yet somehow still unsure, this is the class to develop the practice of finding space of mind. A little heat, some cool tunes, easy moves and a way into the discipline of meditation.

On the schedule at both Potts Point, Sydney and South Yarra, Melbourne Studios on the second Friday of every month.

MUSIC

Music is one of the most powerful ways we can knit our thoughts, emotions and sensations more tightly together to create a profound experience of “being here now”. We are passionate about music at One, and use it to facilitate all our classes, making them more impactful, engaging and of course, fun! The soundtrack to this class is curated to invoke meltingly good relaxation with an undercurrent of sensual connection, through swirling soundscapes and slow, pulsating grooves.

MOVEMENT

Within the traditions of yoga and buddhism, meditation can be practiced still or moving. In this class, movement is used both to prepare the body for a more comfortable still meditation, as well as a mindfulness practice in itself. All our classes encourage you to “put your mind in muscle” and become increasingly aware of your embodied self. This class allows for more time to dwell on this practice, slowing the movement down to invite more nuanced awareness.

Moving meditation can be the ideal practice for those who struggle with a racing mind during seated meditation. It gives a point of focus, an outlet for your energy and soothes the nervous system.

MEDITATION

There are many techniques, forms and traditions of meditation. Mindfulness is a form of meditation which has evolved out of the buddhist tradition, based on contemporary scientific research, which essentially trains your attention to be stronger and more consistent, just as you can train any muscle or skill. However mindfulness is just one aspect of meditation. The true state of meditation is “thoughtless awareness”, and is associated with profound contentment, effortless alertness and the dissolution of the sense of separateness between observer and observed (hence why our studio is called “one”!). We believe it is possible for everyone to experience this state, if only for a moment, with just a little practice.

A LITTLE HEAT

Heat is a neuromuscular relaxant. Walking into One, your body and mind are immediately transported to a tropical holiday – our carefully designed heat (engineered with the perfect amount of moisture and fresh air) is of a velvety, tropical feel unlike any other studio in the world. Every element of this class is created to make meditation and mindfulness easier to achieve, assisting you to let go of habitual stress and distraction and enter into that gentle, spacious state of “now”, even if only briefly.

REFRESH

Complimentary tea is served after class. Please enjoy your deep state of relaxation and make new friends, or bask in the company of existing ones. Our teachers are always happy to answer questions that may have arisen during practice.

LEARNING MORE

  • BEFORE CLASS & WHAT TO BRING

    – Be hydrated. For the class, but just in life generally.
    – Wear clothes you can move comfortably in
    – All props are provided
    – Towels are available to hire
    – Please bring your own water bottle
    – One has full change room and shower facilities, including our own custom crafted Body Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner

  • I HAVE NEVER MEDITATED BEFORE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?

    There is extensive and growing evidence that supports meditation as a tool for stress reduction, improving concentration, dealing with anxiety, grief and over whelming emotion and lowering blood pressure.

    You will be guided through yoga derived movement, into supported Yin style postures and through mindfulness and meditation practices. It involves directing your awareness and becoming familiar with the idea that there is an observer within you that is slightly seperate from your experience. It is quite nice and not uncomfortable.

  • ONE ETIQUETTE

    – Arriving 5 minutes before class is the minimum. You will be more relaxed if you allow 10 minutes or more to get yourself settled.
    – Let your teacher know you have arrived at reception, even if you are a regular
    – Please be quiet in the studio
    – We have lockers, but do not recommend bringing highly valuable items. One is not responsible for your belongings.
    – Please do not leave class early unless it is an emergency or has been previously arranged with your teacher
    – Only emergency services staff who are currently on call may bring phones into the studio.
    – Be kind to each other.

  • DOES MY MEMBERSHIP OR PASS COVER THIS CLASS?

    Yes! As One Hot Still is a regularly scheduled class, all memberships or multi-class passes are valid for this class. We look forward to seeing you!
