One Hot Teacher Series: AMY BAXTER

Amy Baxter, yoga teacher in Potts Point

What is your hometown?
Central Coast, NSW

Where did you complete your teacher training?
In Sydney with Annie Carpenter (creator of Smart Flow). An incredible & inspiring teacher from the United States, know as the ‘teachers teacher’.

What are three words that describe your teaching style?
Challenging, nurturing and occasionally cheeky.

What is the #1 thing you love about yoga?
The learning process. Currently in my personal practice & teaching, every time I step onto the mat I learn something new about myself, my teachings or my students. You always need to keep that sparkle & creativity alive in whatever you do!

If you had to pick, what’s your favourite pose and why?!
Tough one … um Savasana!! On a more serious note, Ardha Chandrasana (half moon pose). It’s not necessarily a rock star pose but for me, it’s an all round pose; challenges balance, flexibility & opens the heart. When in this pose, my focus is nowhere else.

Who are you inspired by?
My girlfriends. I have a really tight-nit group of great friends, we all work in such different fields. Get us in a room and we could talk about feminism for days! I’m inspired by all of them. A more house hold name would be Emma Watson I admire her talent, womens rights work and she is also a certified yoga teacher – what a legend!

Favourite line from a movie?
Mama always said “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” – Forrest Gump.

How do you like to “treat yo self?”
I love to travel. Every year I take myself overseas with either friends or my partner. That way the ‘treat day’ can extend to weeks at a time 😉
