One Hot Yoga is a contemporary studio that separates the core teachings of yoga from the cultural practices that have historically surrounded it, such as offerings, chanting, Sanskrit, mystics, deities and gurus. Our name reflects our accessible, evidence-based approach.

“One” is the first and lowest whole number. It means unity.

Our Style


The One Hot Yoga system is a Slow Hot Flow that balances freedom within structure. You will recognize a common framework to each class, yet every week explore different postures and themes. Our teachers draw from their own unique experience and lineage, so that you can enjoy the vast, living tradition that is yoga today.

We begin and end with breathing exercises known as pranayama. The movement begins with a broad invitation to awaken and lengthen the major muscle groups. We gradually add depth and complexity with each sequence. We warm up with simple postures and progress to deeper stretching and strengthening in the energizing standing series. Our 60 minute class includes balances and deep core strengthening. We cool down with some sublime deep holds during the floor series to prepare ourselves for the final pranayama and meditation. The practice concludes with savasana, a guided relaxation, which restores your energy and offers the opportunity to experience the profound peacefulness for which yoga is famous.


Our core body temperature is 37˚C. When the air is also 37˚C it dissolves the sensation of separateness from our surroundings. This allows us to submerge into our practice, melting tension and distractedness.

37˚C is the optimum temperature at which we get maximum benefits, such as burning more calories and increasing our heart rate, without unnecessary risk. You will sweat a lot. You will work hard – every muscle and organ of your body, especially your skin, heart and brain. At first the work is in the superficial layers of the body – the big muscles. As you progress you will begin to massage the organs and the glands with the compression of deeper postures, as well as recruiting more subtle muscles with greater finesse. So every time you practice you will get more benefit, including; weight normalization; power, strength and control; grace; agility; steadiness of mind; emotional stability, peacefulness. It really is amazing.


Our warm studio is kept at 27˚C and offers classes that either generate internal heat, such as Power Flow, or that do not require heat, such as Yin. This change in temperature allows the practice of inversions and arm balances, which may not be comfortable to practice in a hot studio. Studio2 also offers dedicated Slow Hot Flow Beginners Classes Mondays at 5.30pm and Level 2 classes for those who would like more progression.

Our body and hair care products have been created especially for One Hot Yoga by Rasasara Organic Skinfood. They are formulated by Ayurvedic principals using pure, natural ingredients to balance the heat of the practice so you feel refreshed and replenished after every class.

Geranium, Mint and Hemp Shampoo. Mint is cooling, refreshing and smells heavenly, especially combined with balancing geranium. Hemp seed oil is added because it is rich in vitamin E and other fatty acids, and assists in preventing dry scalp conditions which can be exacerbated when we move from cold to hot environments.

Brahmi and Cedarwood Conditioner. Brahmi is an ayurvedic “superherb”. It nourishes the roots of the hair to promote growth. It may also prevent hair splitting, discoloration and dandruff. Cedarwood’s earthy aroma is grounding and soothing.

Hand and Body Wash with Mandarin, Bergamot, Geranium, Calendula and a hint of Ylang Ylang. Our sulphate free hand and body wash is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Calendula oil works as an exceptional skin conditioner, has anti bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and can speed healing of bruises and cuts.

The studio is open 30 minutes before advertised class times. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early as the front door is locked for security at the beginning of each class and there is no late entry.

All classes except Mysore Style and Level 2 classes are suitable for beginners.

Save time and money by booking online. (Nearly all our programs are cheaper to buy on the website than in the studio!)


One Hot Yoga is a membership based studio. The real benefits of yoga are only experienced with consistent practice, and so our pricing encourages practice 2 to 3 times per week. We also encourage you to buy classes online by making packages significantly cheaper online than in the studio. Once you buy a membership or classes you do not need to book for every class (although you can if you find it helpful for organising your diary). Just arrive 5 minutes early to class to scan in at reception.

New Students

All our classes are suitable for beginners, but it may take you 3 classes to get used to the heat and the sequence. Please Book and pay online.

What to bring

  • Clothes you can sweat and move in — leggings or shorts and a tank top
  • A bottle of water
  • A bath or beach towel
  • Don’t eat for 1½ hours before class
  • Be well hydrated
  • Mats are provided. Towels are available to hire and water available to purchase. We have showers with body wash, shampoo and conditioner

Hot Yoga is suitable for most people. Keep in mind it is vigorous exercise in a room heated to 37˚C at about 50% humidity. We require a letter from your doctor to participate if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Under 16 years old
  • Have a history of heart condition or stroke
  • Have a serious Cardio-vascular condition including hypertension, hypotension, heart failure etc
  • Currently using Diuretics, barbiturates or beta-blockers


  • Arrive at least 5 minutes before class, as there is no late admittance
  • Check in at reception for all classes
  • Wash your hands and feet before entering the yoga room
  • Observe silence in the yoga room
  • No personal belongings in the yoga room other than water and towel. There are lockers in the change rooms for valuables or at reception for larger items
  • No phones in the yoga room – the heat and humidity are not good for them
  • Listen carefully to the teacher’s instructions
  • You may lie down at any time to take rest, but commit to staying in the room for the entire class
  • Wipe your mat and surrounding space before you leave class
  • Allow yourself at least 5 classes to acclimate to the heat and the become familiar with the sequence

Is it Bikram?

No, we are not a Bikram Yoga studio. Bikram Choudhury has made an important contribution to contemporary hot yoga. He founded and operates the franchise known as “Bikram Yoga” which is an unchanging 90 minute sequence of static postures in a room heated to 40˚C plus.

One Hot Yoga’s signature Slow Hot Flow is 60 minutes of moving postures at 37˚ with a set structure but a constantly varying sequence. We include many poses from the same lineage as Bikram (the lineage of Bishnu Gosh) but draw more heavily from the lineages of Krishnamacharya such as Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Jivamukti and Power Yoga, Sivananda Yoga and more.

Studio2 is is kept at a delicious 27 degrees and has a cushioned timber floor to support arm balances and inversions. We have a diverse offering of Power Flow, Yin, Beginner and Level 2 classes to cater to all levels.

Power Flow builds heat internally, rather than relying on the heat of the room. It is a contemporary, fitness based style that is accessible to all levels. Our teachers build their sequences from their unique experience, so you can enjoy variety. Beginners are always welcome.

Can I visit both Studio1 and Studio2 with my membership?

Yes! Come as often as you like – our membership gives you unlimited access to both studios. With over 60 classes per week of many styles, our membership is amazing value.

I am a beginner. Where should I start?

Beginner classes are Mondays at 5.30pm and every Saturday at 10.30am we have an “Elements of Slow Hot Flow” class. These are both great places to start as they are slower classes with more detailed instruction of the poses. However, all our classes are open to all levels and it will take about 10 classes to start to become familiar with some of the poses, so the best time to come is – when it best suits you!
